Michelle's Story

My journey with a complex kid started with my first born son.  When I was pregnant I worked a full time job and at 29 weeks I went in to get an Ultrasound and didn’t come out of the hospital until a month later.  My son was born 8 weeks prematurely and was a NICU baby for one month.  From the beginning we were dealing with delays. He couldn’t suck, swallow and breathe at the same time so he had to drink my milk through a bottle. He was such a bad eater! As he grew we could see that he wasn’t hitting his milestones. We went through the regional center when he was only 18 month old getting an OT to help with feeding. We could also tell that he couldn’t talk. That was the beginning our journey.

Through the years we got different diagnosis and we have been treating him since 18 months old.  I still remember his first word “more” and I have it on video!!! What a moment that was for me!

He is now 10 years old and even though he is still behind behaviorally, educational and psychological.  He is most intelligible but its hard even for me to sometimes understand him. He still has tantrum and I have to deal with broken things around my house.

I am telling you this because I want you to know that I see you! I am you!
